Mindfulness
Free Taster Sessions

Neuroscience continues to reveal the power and importance of neuroplasticity in building and maintaining our psychological well-being and our ability to cope with stress. This course introduces some of these latest research findings and provides a practical framework for implementing them in our own daily lives.

Over 30 years ago Jon Kabat-Zinn pioneered a mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) programme at the University of Massachusetts Medical School hospital, and since then mindfulness approaches have gained respect and support all over the world and are now increasingly offered in various forms in many work places, schools and communities.

Natural Art-Making Classes

Tutors: Sarah Nicholson and Emma Cowan.

Location: Kauaeranga Valley Hall, Thames, NZ

Create your own art supplies from nature, and be inspired to see the creative potential of the natural world around you.

Over 8 weeks, we will be creating a wide variety of art-making tools and materials from plants and foraged fibres from the gardens, homes and land around us. These include making brushes, dip pens for drawing, artist charcoal and coloured inks for painting, all using natural materials we can harvest ourselves.

Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace, with one on one help to learn new skills. They will be guided to create their own collection of art materials and resources which they can take home at the end of the term, along with the knowledge and practical experience to experiment further alone.

Suitable for all levels of art experience,

from age 8 - 14yrs.

We will be planting about 10,000 native dune plants over two days, this time at four sites. It's going to be a fantastic community event, and we'd love to have you join us for one or both days.
Where and when do we meet:
• On Friday 17th May 10:00 am, we will meet on the reserve adjacent to the Mountain Vista parking area for our morning plant to complete the Southend restoration and then move up once we have finished to the airfield windsock parking area, we expect around lunch time, to plant the Jacksons Claim site.
• On the Saturday 18th May 9:30 am, we will meet at the surf club to plant a large upper dune area at Claxton Avenue and then move to Royal Billy Point once that are is completed to plant a small area here too.
What to bring:
• Closed-toe footwear suitable for working in the sand
• Water bottle and lunch
• A spade, ideally narrow ended
• Gloves (if desired)
• Hat, sun screen etc depending upon the weather
A request:
• Please e-mail info@pauanuidunes.org.nz if you are coming to help plant, which days and how many planters you will bring with you.
IMPORTANTLY IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS/QUESTIONS please e-mail us info@pauanuidunes.org.nz or give Martin a call on 021 410 008.
IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, any changes or postponements will be promptly announced on our Facebook page.
THANKS TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE MADE DONATIONS to enable this event to happen. A special thanks for funding from WWF NZ in partnership with the Tindall Foundation and also to Hopper Construction.
HOPEFULLY WE WILL SEE YOU ON ONE OR BOTH DAYS. YOUR PARTICIPATION WILL TRULY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Together, we can preserve and enhance our local dune environment for generations to come. See you on the dunes
