Thames Library to close
from May 4th - 14th

Thames Library is closing for just over a week this May, while we replace the carpet in the public area.
The library will be closed from 12pm on Saturday 4 May until Monday 13 May. We’ll re-open at 9am on Tuesday 14 May.
This week is a GREAT time to stock up on books - because of the closure, we're issuing books for FOUR weeks instead of the usual three. Remember, you can borrow up to 20 items at a time per card.

The works being carried out are similar to those taking place on Sealey Street, and are designed to make the intersection safer for both drivers and pedestrians. Contractors Ventia NZ and our Council understand that these works are likely to affect the public, nearby residents, school buses, parents’ and students’ movements. Please be assured that every effort will be made to minimise disruption and ensure safety for residents, the public and school operations.
Clear signage will be displayed around the site to divert pedestrians and traffic safely and efficiently. Provisions are in place to accommodate emergency services with site access and priority movements.

Public Submissions
on the future of Thames Pool

The Thames Community Board commissioned a business case for the new location of the Thames Pool and a public survey is now open. We're asking community preference for either an indoor or partially indoor option at Thames High School, a fully indoor facility in Matatoki or no new pool at all.
Click 'Details' below to see plans, capital costings, projected operational expenses AND a survey link (bottom of page).

Soft plastics are anything your food is wrapped in, such as chip packets, bread bags and chocolate wrappers.
All soft plastics need to be clean and dry.
They are then sent to various places in New Zealand, but mainly to Future Post in Waiuku
to be made into fence posts.

For the lead up to Earth Day we have decided to share with you the process for the hard-to-recycle items we collect.
Follow us to get a better understanding.
We hope that it may motivate you and your family
to make some changes.
The biggest change we can make
is to REDUCE and just say no to stuff.
We also have some fun worksheets instore for the children.

Roadworks on corner of
Sealey and Mackey Streets
Thames
April 8th - May 3rd

Work is planned to take place at the intersection of Mackay Street and Sealey Street, Thames from Monday 8 April to Friday 3 May, to improve safety for road users and pedestrians.
During this time there’ll be a road closure in place for Sealey Street and a two-way stop-go on Mackay Street.
We understand that these works may cause inconvenience, but every effort will be made to minimise disruptions to nearby residents, the public and Thames High School and to ensure the safety of students, parents and staff members.
During the construction phase on the eastern side of Mackay and Sealey Streets, on the Thames High School side, some of the parking (approximately five spaces) on Sealey Street will not be available to students/teachers and parents due to construction activities. Bus parking will temporarily be moved so that buses will bypass down Court Street. Clear signage will be displayed around the site to divert pedestrians/traffic safely and efficiently. Provisions are in place to allow emergency services access and priority if required.
Our Council and contractors Ventia thank you for your understanding while this necessary work takes place.

The cinema will have a high-quality ventilation, heating and cooling system, and will include facilities for people with disabilities and hearing impairment.
People will be able to purchase a glass of wine, beer,

There will be a small courtyard out the back if people would like to meet there before a movie.

Thames Music and Drama
does 'Chicago' in 2024

Our committee is excited to announce that for our Big Show in 2024 we will be staging CHICAGO!
Set in Chicago in the jazz age, the musical is based on a 1926 play of the same title by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, about actual criminals and the crimes on which she reported. Directed by our very own Asha Peppiatt!
If you're keen to get in on all the action, be sure to keep a close eye on our website for details and auditions.

Volunteer
with St John

We simply couldn't deliver our life-changing health and community services
without the support of our incredible volunteers.
We first started as a voluntary organisation, and still today 70% of our
workforce are volunteers.
So we mean it when we say they are the lifeblood of our organisation.
They're a mighty team of 8,000 amazing people doing important work in all sorts of different roles, from driving health shuttles to teaching first aid,
helping in our retail stores and visiting people in care homes.
We couldn't do the work without them, and we are always keen to see that our volunteers enjoy the benefits of their involvement too.
